What is Tantra and why is it such a powerful healing modality ?

The meaning of Tantra is too ‘weave’ or ‘expand’, it is a deeply Spiritual and historical chosen path of life that has its focus on healing and promotes inner connection and expanding consciousness. It consists of many different forms which includeYoga, Meditation and Pranayama in addition to Tantric massage. Tantra is an in-depth science which requires many years of dedicated study until you can fully understand and appreciate its principles and practices.

Although a Tantric massage is an incredibly sensual and beautiful experience when practiced authentically with a heart led and fully conscious touch the focus is for healing, transformation and enlightenment within the mind and body and not sexual gratification as can be the misconception.

How does healing occur during a Tantric massage?

Within us all we have a feminine and masculine energy known as Shakti and Shiva. A part of the feminine Shakti energy is known as the Kundalini which lies dormant at the base of the spine unless it is activated through either sexual practices, spiritual practices or dance and movement. This powerful sexual energy also known as Prana, Chi or life force energy is the most powerful healing force that naturally occurs in our bodies and once activated it travels from the base of the spine to the crown of the head through the Sushumna Nadi which is the channel in the spine containing our chakras or energy centres. This energy is capable of healing and releasing blockages which may be restricting our wellbeing in some way and preventing our minds and bodies from being fully functional and therefore preventing us from living our lives optimally.

During an authentic Tantric massage this sexual energy is gradually increased through the combination of connection rituals and body work and then directed to create healing and internal balance within every part of our being. This process can only occur with a highly skilled therapist who has the correct intention, knowledge, and respect for working with and directing this sacred energy to create beneficial change and wellbeing. It is very important to understand that Tantra does promote becoming more open within your mind and body and encourages exploring personal boundaries, but unfortunately there are unauthentic individuals who do not respect this sacred therapy and abuse the activation of the sexual energy created during a treatment to take advantage of others for their own financial gain by offering sexual extras which is completely against the principles of Tantra and does not represent it in any way.

Therefore, the misconceptions surrounding Tantra are often inaccurate as Tantra when practised honestly, correctly, and authentically is not about physical release but connection on every level and is therefore an incredibly powerful tool for complete regeneration within the mind and body and as a result it is the giver who is responsible for how it is experienced and therefore perceived to be.
